About the founder
Durrell K. Douglas
Durrell K. Douglas is a Houston-born organizer, founder, producer, TEDx speaker and storyteller whose work sits at the intersection of civic engagement, leadership, media and community building. Raised in South Park, Durrell has spent his career creating platforms that help people find their voice, build meaningful relationships and turn shared ideas into action.
He is the founder of Houston Civic, the umbrella organization behind Houston Justice, Register Houston and the Houston Civic Institute. Through this work, Durrell has led voter-registration campaigns, neighborhood outreach programs, leadership-development initiatives and efforts to make Houston's civic institutions more accessible to the people they serve. He also serves as president of the Southeast Democrats, where he is helping build a stronger and more organized political community in southeast Houston.
Beyond his civic work, Durrell produces the Houston Power Breakfast, an intimate gathering that brings together leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives and public servants for honest conversations about leadership and impact. He is also the creator of Houston Honors, the Houston Power 100 and Live From the Black House, a podcast and gathering space for thoughtful conversations about politics, culture, business and the people shaping Houston.
As a TEDx speaker, Durrell understands the power of a well-told idea to change how people see themselves, their communities and what is possible. Across every project, his assignment remains the same: bring the right people together, open doors that should already be open and build the kind of platforms that allow good ideas and good people to become impossible to ignore.
